This week's haul from the Madawaska Mica Mine, Ontario — tourmaline, lepidolite, and a surprise beryl
Made the trip to the Madawaska mine for the third time this year and it absolutely delivered. The dig fee is worth every penny — the tailings are still full of gem-quality tourmaline crystals.
Highlights from this trip:
- Three complete terminated tourmaline crystals, largest is 47mm with excellent pink color
- A chunky lepidolite-quartz association piece, roughly 900 grams
- One unexpected aquamarine beryl crystal sitting in a muscovite pocket — completely intact
The beryl find honestly made me do a double take. Light blue, about 22mm, the termination is perfect. I have been digging this mine for 6 years and this is my first beryl from here.
Highly recommend this spot for anyone in Ontario. Run by a great family, very well organized.
